Will Reynolds

Chairman of the Board

In the addition to serving as the Chairman of the Board, Will Reynolds is a consultant for military health and Department of Veterans Affairs clients, as well as a leadership coach and public speaker. Will’s 63+ speaking engagements to date are in the areas of advocacy, keynotes, VIP introductions up to the POTUS and FLOTUS level, military educational events, academia, organizational support, and event-focused promotion. Will also serves as a board member of Disabled Sports USA, the Positivity Project, the Fisher House Foundation, and is a past board member and current volunteer for Team Red, White & Blue.

Will has always been an avid athlete, from cycling and swimming as a Boy Scout to intercollegiate Division-I gymnastics at West Point. After being wounded in Iraq, Will returned first to the bike, competing in para-cycling. In 2016 Will was the US Team Captain for Prince Harry’s Invictus Games. Will’s favorite events are cycling road races and time trials, and he also enjoys competing in track and field.

Wayne Dowd

Board of Directors Member

Wayne Dowd is the Advance Systems Manager for Ball Aerospace and a 22-year Veteran of the Navy. While in the Navy, Wayne served as SEAL lead sniper and regional survey team member, planning and conducting special operations missions in various locations worldwide, including Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Bosnia, Albania, and Kuwait, as well as supporting counter-narcotics operations with government organizations in and outside the United States.

Wayne was both a record-setting athlete and served as the President and Chairman of the Board of Team4Mil, a non-profit organization that raised awareness of wounded veterans. Wayne has competed in three Race Across Americas (RAAM), in addition to multiple 24-hour ultra-cycling races, and ultra-trail races ranging from 26.2 to 78 miles. In 2012 Team4Mil set a RAAM world record for combined wounded and non-wounded teams, before merging that program with USMES in 2013. Wayne and his team held the record for over five years until it was broken last year by a mere three minutes.

In 2020 Wayne plans to enjoy time with his four children and four grandchildren. He can be found running in the mountains of Erie Colorado as well as cycling, skiing, camping and stand up paddleboarding, all with the goal of earning a coveted spot in the 2020 Leadville 100 Trail Run.

Chris Spurrier

Director of Club Programs & Logistics

Chris Spurrier has served in the Air Force for 25 years and is currently stationed on Andrews AFB near Washington, DC. Besides being Director of Club Programs, Chris is the USMES service course manager and an active member of USMES Region 2. A late adopter of endurance sports, Chris started running in 2010 to lose weight. After completing several marathons and triathlons, Chris (now 90 pounds lighter) fell in love with cycling. He now focuses on cyclocross racing, and can also be found on a mountain bike or at road cycling races. Chris’ racing resume includes events like Shenandoah Mountain 100, Dirty Kanza 200, and the JFK 50 miler. His passion for helping others has inspired Chris to coach cyclists and runners, and assist active duty service members to pass – or max – their PT tests.

Scott Gage

Triathlon Team Coordinator

After serving as USMES Region 10 Co-coordinator, multisport athlete Scott Gage is stepping into the national role of Triathlon Team Coordinator. Scott began his career as a logistics Marine, specializing in improving unit readiness and deployability, before moving on to production and occupational safety
positions in the private sector. Now working as the Clark County Health and Safety Manager, Scott manages safety programs for 20 departments and roughly 1200 employees, a rewarding job that also
puts him on the front lines in the fight against COVID. “I enjoy the everyday challenges, providing guidance to our leadership and resolving any safety concerns,” said Scott, “but I will be happy when COVID is in the rearview mirror.”

Scott’s introduction to triathlon came four years after he left the Marine Corps, when a friend recruited him to ride the bike leg of a team triathlon. Bit by the multisport bug, Scott enjoyed several years of duathlon and bike racing. Although life and work responsibilities took Scott away from competition for a decade, in 2018 he returned to the multisport lifestyle and has since added gravel racing and trail running to his list of endurance sports.

As he begins his new position, Scott’s goal is to use his logistics and communication skills to support USMES triathletes, promote and grow our paratriathlete and female athlete membership, and increase
duathlon participation (an easy crossover to the multisport world for our many USMES cyclists). “Multisport participation and competition has brought so much to my life,” said Scott. “In my professional career I find it deeply rewarding to provide guidance and remove barriers. I look forward to serving my USMES teammates, whether they’re starting as beginners or are already at the elite amateur
or Paralympic level.”

Garett Schreier

Cycling Coordinator

Navy Veteran Garett Schreier enlisted directly after high school, serving as a Navy Corpsman. He deployed with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit to Somalia in 1994, and was later was commissioned as a Navy Nurse Corps officer. Garett currently serves his fellow Veterans as an executive for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Charleston, South Carolina. It has become his life work to ensure that Veterans receive the most competent, compassionate, and technically advanced nursing care available anywhere in the world.

Garett spent his childhood racing BMX, and began mountain biking while he was Navy active duty. After discovering road bikes Garrett raced 30+ times a year on an elite regional team. As his work and family obligations increased Garrett shifted to a less demanding training schedule, running marathons and dabbling in triathlons, including completing two IRONMANS. Garrett has planned and coordinated many events and races, gaining a wealth of experience working with USA Cycling permitting, sponsors, city council, and the many other organizations needed to ensure a successful event. In 2019 Garrett (who has held a USAC racing license for over 20 years) achieved top 10 finishes at the Sea Otter Classic and the Tour de Millersburg.
